Two homeschool athletic programs, one shared mission. Here's our story, what we believe, and the people behind the Flames.
Our Organization
The Spartanburg Flames is a Christian athletic organization serving homeschool students and families in the Spartanburg area through competitive sports, community, and discipleship. Athletics is more than competition for us. It is a vehicle for living out and sharing the Gospel with our athletes, families, and communities. Through coaching, competition, Bible study, prayer, and service, we seek to develop young people who pursue excellence, demonstrate Christlike character, and use their gifts to glorify God. The Spartanburg Flames operates under Upstate Homeschool Athletics Association, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 39-2306816).

To use athletics as a vehicle for the Gospel, providing competitive opportunities for young athletes while intentionally fostering Christian faith, character, discipline, teamwork, and service to others.
Our Vision
To build a Christ-centered athletic community where athletes and families grow in faith and character, pursue excellence together, and carry the Gospel beyond our teams into the communities we serve.
Our History
Carolina Homeschool Cougars
Est. 2018A homeschool athletic program serving the Spartanburg area, built on Cross Country, Track and Field, and Volleyball.
2018
Carolina Homeschool Cougars founded in the Spartanburg area with a focus on baseball and basketball programs.
2019
Expanded to include 35 student-athletes across baseball, basketball, and cross country programs.
2020
Adapted programs during challenging times, maintaining competitive excellence and team unity.
2021
Achieved regional recognition in baseball and established a strong coaching foundation.
2022
Reached 75 student-athletes and won the program's first conference championship in basketball.
2023
Continued growth with an emphasis on character development and academic excellence.
2024
Strengthened programs and began discussions for organizational expansion and partnership.
Upstate Eagles
Est. 2018A premier Christian homeschool athletic organization serving the greater Upstate region in baseball
2018
Upstate Eagles established as a premier homeschool athletic organization serving the greater Upstate region.
2019
Launched comprehensive soccer and track & field programs with 40 student-athletes.
2020
Maintained competitive programs while prioritizing student-athlete safety and development.
2021
Added a volleyball program and achieved state tournament appearances in multiple sports.
2022
Grew to 80+ student-athletes and established a scholarship fund for deserving athletes.
2023
Won multiple state championships and became known for excellence in track & field.
2024
Explored merger opportunities to better serve homeschool athletics in South Carolina.
Spartanburg Flames
Est. 2025The unified program formed from the merger of the Cougars and Eagles, now serving 200+ student-athletes across six sports.
2025
The Carolina Homeschool Cougars and Upstate Eagles officially merged to form the Spartanburg Flames, combining the best of both organizations to create a premier homeschool athletic program serving over 200 student-athletes.
2025
Launched unified programs across baseball, basketball, soccer, cross country, track & field, and volleyball with expanded coaching staff.
2025
Established new headquarters and training facilities, bringing together decades of combined experience and tradition.
